9th session of the M.E 2.0 Palestinian-Israeli Young Business Leaders Forum

This session took place on the 15th of September 2011 in Jerusalem. The first half of the meeting was devoted to group work and plenary discussion on the topic: “The Aftermath of September 20th – What will Happen?. The participants were divided into two working groups which each had to brainstorm, reflect and discuss their hopes, fears and implications of a Palestinian Statehood.

In the second half of the meeting, there were two guest speakers who tackled the topic and answered many of the members’ questions, fears and hopes. The speakers were Mr. Walid Salem, political analyst and director of the Center for Democracy and Community Development (CDCD) and Dr. Gershon Baskin, political analyst and former Israeli CEO and founder of the Israel/Palestine Center for Research and Information (IPCRI).

How to promote a liberal agenda?

This was the topic of the Training seminar, which our partner “Be Free Israel” (Israel Chofshit) and the Jerusalem office of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Liberty organized at the weekend of the 2nd and 3rd of September 2011, in the Kibbutz Ashdot Yaacob for the leading activists of the movement.

International Online Conference “Facebook Revolutions? The Role of Social Media for Political Change in the Arab World” (September 19 to 30, 2011)

Nine months after the beginning of the “Arab Spring” this conference will take stock: What has been the role of the media – particularly the social media – in bringing down dictators in the Arab word? Do these media promote democracy, freedom of expression and free access to information? Or – as others have argued: Is the role of social media exaggerated?

It was appropriate to discuss these issues in the context of an international online conference. Among the resource persons were bloggers from Egypt, Algeria, Bahrain, Jordan, Morocco and Syria as well as other international experts.

Economic Freedom Report 2010: Assessment from a Palestinian Perspective

On September 8th , 2011, a group of Palestinian experts led by our partner Dr. Hisham Awartani, director of Palestine Governance Institute (PGI) gathered, discussed  and analyzed the Economic Freedom Report of the year 2010 especially with regard to the Palestine data and statistics in that report. The outcome of this discussion was an analysis and assessment paper that will be discussed during the 6th Economic Freedom in the Arab World Conference which will take place in Beirut on October 20th and 21st, 2011.

“The Influence of the Establishment of a Palestinian State on Israeli Arabs”

This was the topic of a symposium, which was organized by the S. Daniel Abraham Center for Strategic Dialogue at Netanya Academic College in cooperation with the Jerusalem office of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Liberty on Monday, September the 12th 2011, in which four researchers presented summaries of their articles that appeared in the same-titled publication.

“Minorities in Israel – The Challenge of Integration”

This was the topic of the weekend-seminar, which took place on Friday and Saturday, the 22the and 23th of July 2011, in the “Notre Dame of Jerusalem Center”. The seminar was conducted by the “Forum for Liberal Thinking” and the Jerusalem office of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Liberty.

8th session of the M.E 2.0 Palestinian-Israeli Young Business Leaders Forum

The 8th session of the bilateral forum was a field trip to CISCO Systems in Natanya and took place on Thursday, July 14th, 2011. The Forum’s participants met Mr. Oded Hermony, Head of Israel High Tech Industry Association, and Mrs. Zika Abzuk, Cisco Systems’ Head of Public Benefit Investment Europe, Middle East and Africa.
