Young Entrepreneurs Palestine (YEP) Final Ceremony

Arab and European Liberals Discuss Migration Policies at Brussels Meetings

A senior delegation of the Network of Arab Liberals (NAL) visited Brussels from 3-6 November 2009 for meetings with the European Commission and liberal leaders at the European Parliament. The meetings were part of a program co-sponsored by the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Liberty (FNF) entitled “Liberal Approaches to Sustainable Migration Policies in the Mediterranean Region” and were a follow-up to internal discussions of the Network held in Tunis in August of this year. Mr. Hazem Kawasmi from Palestine participated in this event in Brussels.

I was given the opportunity by the Friedrich Naumann Foundation to participate in a seminar entitled: “Globalization & The Economic Crisis” that took place between the 6th – 18th of September. The seminar was held in a very interesting and unique global atmosphere: collapsing of banks, reservations regarding generations of successful economic methods, countries bailout plans and rising questions of new world order etc..

“Europe, A Continent United?” – Panel discussion in commemoration of the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall

More than 60 guests assembled to attend the panel discussion organized by the Jordan Institute of Diplomacy and the Friedrich Naumann Foundation (FNF) Amman Office, in partnership with the German Embassy Amman. Among them: Ambassadors and other diplomats from Europe and beyond, as well as over 20 members of the Jordanian Foreign Service and dozens of friends and partners of FNF in Jordan.

Liberal International’s 56th Congress held in Cairo

In late October 2009, approx. 300 delegates assembled for the 56th Congress of Liberal International(LI). LI is the world-wide organization of Liberal political parties, movements and individuals, founded in April 1947 in Oxford U.K. After Marrakech in 2006, the Congress took place only for the second time in the Arab world. Are there liberal tendencies in the 18th Knesset?

This was the theme of an evening discussion organised by the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Liberty (FNF) for its alumni and old as well as new friends. The event took place at Beit Zioney America in Tel Aviv on October 19, 2009. Speakers were liberals from all shades of the political spectrum – Shulamit Aloni, Prof. Uriel Reichman and Hemi Doron. The discussion was moderated by Hanita Eshtai, director-general of the Forum for Liberal Thinking, FNF’s eldest partner in Israel.
