GTZ project : “Empowering local government representatives and local councils by enhancing cooperation with civil society organizations”
The project is funded by GTZ and managed by the Friedrich Naumann Foundation in Jerusalem, in cooperation with National Council for Development in Hebron and Hope Organization in Bethlehem
Project description:
The GTZ funded project aims to enable , support, qualify and empower municipal council members and staff in civil society organisations in providing basic services for the population , with a view to making local-policy planning and decision-making processes more gender–sensitive and in order to foster cooperation between the different stakeholders. This will assist in having functioning institutions with satisfactory services with non-corrupt representatives especially on the local level. The project was conducted by our two partners: HOPE Organization in Bethlehem and National Council for Development (NCD) in Hebron. Project timeframe was from October 2007 – May 2008.
Project objectives and overall goals:
1. To enable and support Palestinian local councils and civil society organizations in providing basic services for the community.
2. To qualify and build the capacities of local council members and staff in the civil society organizations.
3. To develop a strategic plan for each council
4. Develop networking and cooperation among the involved parties.
5. Strengthening the accountability, transparency and local participation.
6. Non – violent settlement of conflicts arising from political or economic interests.
