“Towards an Arab Coalition for Freedom of Association & the Integrity of Civil Society in the Arab World”

44 representatives of Arab CSOs from ten Arab countries joined the regional conference “Towards an Arab Coalition for Freedom of Association & Integrity of Civil Society in the Arab World”, held in Broumana / Lebanon from 24 – 25 October 2009.
The regional conference, which comes in the framework of the 2007 – 2010 EU-FNF cofunded regional project on freedom of association (FOA) in the Arab World, was held under the patronage of H.E. Mr. Taher Masri, Arab Commissioner, Civil Society Commission, League of Arab States.
It was agreed by all parties to create a regional Arab Council for Freedom of Association . This council will be registered in Lebanon by the Lebanese partner organization ACRLI . All other national partners in Algeria, Bahrain, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Palestine, Syria, Tunisia and Yemen have to elect / select their representative to the Arab Council for Freedom of Association.
The next major event of the project will be in Cairo in February 2010.
